The one-year anniversary of the Boston Marathon Bombings is just one month away. The physical and emotional impact of those horrific events is still very much front of mind for Bostonians. There are those still in need of medical attention, and thankfully Boston is a healthcare hub among other things.
TT The Bear’s in Cambridge will host a Benefit tomorrow, Saturday, March 15th for Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC). The event is being organized by Lauren Olivia, an employee at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital. According to her personal fundraising page:
[She] will run the 2014 Boston Marathon in honor of all those affected in last year’s tragedy – not only the victims, but also caregivers and clinical staff, many of whom were colleagues and among the first responders.”
According to the Facebook event, Lauren’s fundraising goal is $15,000. As a member of Team BIDMC, Lauren has pledged to raise the money for some amazing initiatives, specifically:
Emergency Relief Fund – To support both the immediate and longer-term mental and physical needs of patients, families, and caretakers impacted by devastating, life-altering events.
New Cancer Center and Surgical Pavilion – BIDMC will offer patients a full array of cancer care, to include: advanced imaging systems; new infusion bays; a radiation oncology suite which will include a state-of-the-art linear accelerator to facilitate delivery of advanced radiation therapy; and access to cutting-edge clinical trials and novel treatments.
Performing will be Boston punk and ska bands Stray Bullets, The Pomps, OC45, and Jason Bennett & The Resistance. Check the videos below. The event will also have a raffle to include prizes from PBR, Stingray Body Art, Boloco, Zipcar, Uber, Paint Nite, Major League Bocce Ball, and more.
The event starts early with doors at 4pm and the show at 5pm. Tickets are $12 and the show is 18+. Tickets can be purchased in advance from Ticketweb. Take the Red Line to Central Square. The show should be over well before 10pm as TT’s has an event following the benefit. If you can, get out there and support Lauren and all of her hard work putting this show together and running in the Boston Marathon. Join the Facebook event.
Stray Bullets, The Pomps, and Jason Bennett all shared a bill together back in January and one can only guess that conversations around this benefit started back then. The Pomps went so far as to claim that they’re only playing afternoon shows with Stray Bullets from now on.
Stray Bullets – “Peace Signs” – Midway Cafe, Jamaica Plain, 1/18/14
The Pomps – “Golden Fleece” – Midway Cafe, Jamaica Plain, 1/18/14
OC45 – “Far Away” – Music Video
Jason Bennett & the Resistance – “Walking Wounded”- Midway Cafe, Jamaica Plain, 1/18/14
As always, check out the event calendar for show listings.
