Five Dollar Bill: An Intimate Evening in Cambridge with Members of The New Limits and of Westbound Train and The Pomps

Matty C / The Pomps / The Thaddeus Merritt Trio | Middlesex Lounge | Boston Ska

The show is only $5. Five dollar bill. Get it?

Rogue 617 and Middlesex Lounge in Cambridge will host a semi-acoustic evening with some of the best talent and musicianship in the Boston ska scene this coming Wednesday. The night opens with the debut performance of The Thaddeus Merritt Trio. You know Thad as the bass player from Westbound Train, The Toasters, and Void Union. Supporting him in the trio is John DeCarlo—also of Westbound Train, Duppy Conquerors, and his own John DeCarlo & Company— and Jacob Cole, newcomer to the ska scene. Watch them perform a low-key version of “Latin Goes Ska” by The Skatalites below with the bass driving the lead.

closing the night out is Matty C, lead singer and trumpet player for The New Limits. You might also recognize him as having played trumpet for The Allstonians and Mass. Hysteria, also having played trumpet on the recent Big D record. He’ll be performing a solo acoustic set. Listen to his take on a New Limits song below, complete with melodica!

Sandwiched in between will be a non-acoustic and not-so-low-key set from new wave-infused ska band The Pomps. Just to connect the dots for you, their lead guitarist Alex Stern is also the guitarist for Big D, Void Union, and Mass. Hysteria. The band also features Jameson Hollis of Have Nots, Casey Gruttadauria of The Macrotones among others, and Rick Smith of Rebuilder, Void Union, and quite a few others.

If it’s not already clear, this show is made up of talented, in-demand musicians. This will be an intimate show you don’t want to miss!
